A friend to us all, the gel inside aloe stalks is used for minor cuts and burns, facial washes, and other skin treatments. But other than medicinal herbalism, what's up with aloe?
Here are some of aloe's mystic properties and associations:
Astrological sign: Cancer
Planet: The Moon
Element: Water
Folk associations: protection, prosperity, good luck
A succulent and all around healer, it makes sense that aloe would be associated with Cancer, the Moon, and water, right? Nurturing, caretaking... aloe's got you.
In folk tradition, aloe has been used to ward away evil or unwelcome energy, especially from your home dwelling. In fact, that's why it's a common house plant. In many folk traditions across the world, hanging or placing aloe near your home's thresholds is a way to keep negative energy away.
You can use the outside and inside of the stalk in rituals and offerings for protection, luck, and prosperity. If you're using aloe in ritual or for medicine, make sure to ask the plant for permission before you harvest a stalk - and honor its answer!
